Is this "Recaptcha thing going to help get rid of Mr. Spam?"
NJoy, it's the little gizmo that pops up from time to time, asking you to enter the two words you see in the little box. It's been around for months, it's just rather random so it remains mostly hidden. In fact, I suspect most Yeddai have never encountered it.
It's supposed to help fight spam because you need to be a real human, not an auto-bot, in order to read the words and type them in correctly.
The answer to this, JQNA, is probably not. At least, not unless it were to become an absolute must for everyone to pass before their answers were accepted and posted onto Yedda's pages.
And that will never happen, because Yedda would lose too many people over it. They have already lost quite a lot due to the format change - they cannot afford to continue to bleed. Less members means less viewers. That can ultimately lead to less advertisers and that leads to less revenue.
Create more hurdles for Yedda's members? Not on your life.
The capcha is intended to apprehend bot-spammers, and as that it does a pretty good job. The best indication that it is doing a good job, is that nobody sees this spam, and can go on happily claiming there is no such spam to report :-)
Unfortunately, some people post their spam in such a way that circumvents this hurdle, and a few others we have erected over time. We are trying to make sure Yedda is as free of spam as possible, and remove all spam we have overlooked as quickly as possible.
