Unction (adv): (L. Unctus, to fill and move).
The Unction of the Holy Spirit is to understand a sound motive for a good work, and to be "filled" (inspired) with ideas how to go about it. Unction is not a varirety of excitement. It is to have genuine power to do a good thing.
One example of unction is Pastor David Wilkerson moving to New York in the 1950's, where he met Nicky Cruz of the notorious Mau Maus street gang, one of the most violent in Spanish Harlem. Wilkerson did not go unsent: he waited on The Eternal to make the mission possible.
This very moving tale is, "The Cross and the Switchblade." It is the true history of the conversion of several warring New York street gangs to Christianity, and new lives as upstanding citizens.
