Oh wow, Sidney Lumet died. I saw several of his films: 12 Angry Men, The Pawnbroker, Network, Equus, and Night Falls on Manhattan. And I just found out he directed The Wiz ... also very good! Which Sidney Lumet movie did you like best?
The Huffington Post
I have seen several of his movies, but I have to say the one I most enjoyed was Deathtrap (1982, with Michael Caine, Christopher Reeve and Dyan Cannon).
I definitely didn't see the ending coming!
We sure lost a good man!!!
If I had to pick one, it'd be "The Pawnbroker".....NOT being a Rod Steiger fan, (to me he's always chewing the scenery - in other words, always OVERacting!!) I still liked it & especially for the 'customers'who came into his shop.....those people were unbelievable.....they were so good that if you didn't know any better, you'd think Lumet had just gone out into the streets and asked people to be in his movie!!!
Of course the whole movie is very downbeat, which is what I like!!! and I got a huge kick out of the fact that one scene had been cut in some cities; the one where the young black woman, trying to get money from him, removes her sweater to reveal her breasts; this immediately brings to Steiger's mind his nude wife being attacked by the Nazis in the camps......it was a question of the nudity being a part of the story; cut that part, and when you see him flashing back to his wife you cannot understand why....
The stupidity of censorship......the DVD of course has the complete, uncut film..........
Sidney Lumet On THE VERDICT
Lee J Cobb in 12 Angry Men
I've narrowed it down to three . . . . . . 12 Angry Men, Fail Safe and Equus.
Oh! I forgot about Murder On The Orient Express! I loved that one, too.
