I think that cross-training is the best.  By cross-training I mean do a big variety of exercises. Some days try swimming. Other days train with weights. And other days do gym classes. Why cross-train? For one thing, you are less likely to get bored if you are always doing something different.  If your routine is fun and full of variety then you are more likely to stick with it. You are also working a big variety of muscle groups when you cross-train.
