Ask Eric Stromer a question here.I understand that an electric water heater should have some water drained off every year. My water heater has the pan that you suggested and has plumbing connected from it to the outside of the house as a drain, my question is: how much water should you drain from the tank to keep sediment from accumulating on the bottom of the tank? I've never done this before and anticipating doing if after the cold weather breaks. The house is new and water heater is also, 2 1/2 yrs old.
