I really want a Maltese dog!

I own a Maltese(s)...they are a loving breed and usually selects one family member to be with/shadow. If I may at your age you have to be really dedicated to owning a pet. It will be your responsibility for it's well fare including vet bills and grooming bills since your parents seem like they do not want a dog. If your mom thinks dogs smell then she will probably always complain and lordy would the dog have to stay outside all the time. Like most pets they love to be around people at all times. Think twice about a dog although you really want one at this time. With small children sometimes they are not that friendly if kids tend to play to rough, etc.

A maltese is a gentle dog but fiesty.  They are not always good around children because they do not like rough play.  They are a mild manner dog and not aggressive at all.   If the child treats the dog with special care and love, then the maltese should do fine.  They do not shed either.  They can live to be 16 years old.  The females tend to bark more so I recommend a male.  They also pee alot, so you will have to invest in potty pads and train them to go on these pads if they are left alone longer than 4 hours.  When they are older, they tend to have knee and heart murmur issues.  Also keep them out of the heat, they can pass out or have seizures.  They like to walk but not too far.  Keep them in cooler tempertures.  They are great dogs but do require attention.  Their hair matts easily so you need to brush daily or keep their hair cut short like a puppy cut.
