We use "do" for present

and we use "did" for past

Do you get an email when I send it?  This asks if you usually get a message.

Did you get an email? Ask if you received an email in the past.

Do you get an email? First must be rewriten as; Do you get email? This ask if you receive email at all. If you leave "an" in the sentence there is no proper reply.
