My car was stolen on a Tuesday night and a police ...

My car was stolen on a Tuesday night and a police report was filed along with my home & business phone number to contact me if they had any info. or was recovered. I called the police dept. twice on Wed., on Thur. and on Fri. and was told that they had no information. When I went in to my business on Sun., to do some catch up work, I found a LETTER from the police dept. that the car was recovered on Thur. and that I could contact the towing company on the following Monday. My question is, Do I have to pay any towing or storage charges to get my car back ?

Are you dealing with a big bureaucracy police dept or a small town dept?

Do you have a record of whom you talked to when you contacted the dept. about the status of you car?

If you are unhappy with the first answer you rec'd are you willing to escalate your complaint up the chain of command.  A Sergeant may not be able to satisfy you and a Captain may have the clout to do so.

On the facts you presented you may be responsible for the tow but not any storage charges.
