You probably mean p^2 +13p -30 = 0 which factors to (p+15)(p-2)=0 giving two solutions, p = -15 or p=2.

You probably mean:  p^2 +13p -30 = 0         (p+15) * (p-2) = 0
If that is what you mean than:   p is either -15 or +2
