There should be a tab along the rail of the card holder. Pressing the tab will release the card.

I figured it out. So dumb.. I looked more closely at the SD   card, found a little groove that locks and unlocks the card.  The SD card in my camera kept reading out "card locked." it wouldn't allow me to do anything with the card, but I finally figured out how to unlock the sd card itself.
