Originated From AOL Help
I have AOL Desktop 9.7. I can start it up and can get to web pages through it, but when I attempt to log in to my account it shows the "Connecting" window in the lower right corner, gets to Step 4, and then reports that "The computer was unable to connect to AOL" and shows an error, "Attempt 1) [Broadband] The computer was unable to connect to AOL. (Error: AC-0000 0x84008001)".
I have no problem using any other browser, plus I can indeed get to the web via the AOL browser and I can even get to AOL mail via the browser. It's just that the AOL Desktop fails to let me log in. This has been happening for two days now.

I tried several things but finally completely un-installed AOL and then re-installed. It is now working fine.
