Is there any truth in the need for all home owners to eventually own a HD television in order to be able to watch TV as the advances in technology increase? I do not wish to purchase one just yet, but am worried that I will eventually be obliged to purchase one.

Don't get caught up in the shop till you drop syndrome. If you don't need it, don't buy it. The longer you wait the lower the price and the better the quality.
