How can I trust an air conditioning Installation expert

What do you recommend for seeing if an ac repairman is reputable. Are there standards they must adhere to or test they must pass? Also are there any good questions that I can ask him to make sure he knows what he is doing?

Make sure the company is licensed and insured.  I like to get referrals from people I trust when hiring any service company, if possible, and the best possible referral source is someone who has done good work for you in the past (good companies only recommend other good companies).
