I was notified that my storage was full. After I cleaned up some old mail

Your New mail will only show 5000 mails. If you cleaned out some old mail, that doesn't help with New mail. You need to either delete some of the new mails, or file them in a folder to read later. You could select hundreds of the oldest mail and file it in a new folder like 2011.

AOL MAIL I've gotten 2 or 3 emails telling me ...

You could call it spam. Probably "phishing", trying to get you to go to a fake AOL web site and enter your password.
