Discuss harryvan's answer to: Trees grow upwards on a slope - Why ?

I noticed that trees that grow on a slope still grow straight upwards (not vertical to the ground). How do trees "know" to grow straight upwards ?

That force is called gravitropism. That means that the roots and stem or tree trunk grow in the direction of earth's gravitational force.
