I have been to Barcelone several times and I find it a great fun plsce to go to:

1. The food is great

2. The Gaudi Architecture is awsome

3. Warm climate

I recommend Ronda. It's a little town in the south (Andalucia), and is quite beautifully preserved. The older city was built on a cliff, and they inhabitants had to invent some pretty interesting and elaborate ways to bring water into the city.

It is also famous for the largest arena in Spain if you're into that sort of thing (though just visiting the site was enough for me). If you have the means, the Parador is located in what was once the city hall, and the view from the breakfast hall is really breath taking. Like all paradores the service is beyond excellent and the rooms are great.

I've visited the Islands of Spain . The Balearic Islands are great for young people who like to party if you are looking for "fun" then you'll find it in the islands . Beaches , ever lasting parties lots of tourists and lots of booze. Mallorca and Ibiza were my favorite.

I've been to spain once, travelling with a car fo a couple of weaks, and I really liked Nuria, which is a mountain village that you must ride a speacial train to get to, and then there are some nice daywalks around it.

you can get there straight from the Barcelona Metro by changing few trains, and the whole ride takes about 3 hours.

another nice place, about 1-2 hours driving south-west, is a mountain called Pedraforcas, which means "forks of stone" I think, it's a really nice place to hike to.

I slept the night before climbing in the Refuge below it (a nice little Mountain Hut), which was great.

You can buy good topo maps of the region at the convinience stores around there.
