I'm not aware of that ever being an issue with auto insurance unless during the year time you have accidents and tickts.  If one is a lot cheaper than another, you need to read the fine print and compare the coverages next to each other.  It may be lacking a lot on coverage.  One shouldn't buy auto insurance because it's required but to protect themselves when it's needed.

      Have never had that happen to me, therefore I don't think if the company is a reputable one, they would do such a thing.  Have you searched consumer web-blog sites.  Things like consumer reports and the BBA will give you a lot of insight, from consumers just like you, into their experiences.  Just Google search the company, if there are a lot of complaints, that website will pop up.  By the way I use State Farm, sure they are a little more expensive (as a new customer) but the longer I have been with them without accidents/moving violations, my premiums are less expensive than most of the second-rate companies many people use.  And there is great peace-of-mind in being with such a well-respected, firmly-founded company like them.
