All translations are from extant manuscripts. The KJV does not come from the oldest and it language is often archaic and written at a much higher grade level than others.

 

Some translations are vertabim such as YLT. Some are loose paraphrases such as CEV. There are many positions occupied by current translations in the spectrum.

 

If you are asking with the intention of obtaining one, I would ask that you consider the CEV, the NIV, the NAS, and the Amplified. Please know that you cannot make a wrong choice unless you get a translation from a cult.
