Toy guns,Should they be banned?

i have two younger brothers and playing with toy guns is just a boy thing! all of my brothers have been playing with plastic firearms since we were little, and now I want to buy some toy guns for them , Just like this super gun:

http://www.shopping-toys.com/super-submachine-gun-electrical-motivated-army-military-toy-p-858.html

but I was so surprised and astonished at their talk at the Capital that they were going to ban toy guns, because they look too much like real guns. One store in my area has already pulled the toy guns off the shelves. The police are saying that it is hard for people and for the cops to tell the difference if a car is just driving by, etc…

why they do this???

Do you think they should be banned?

How about violence on TV, and video games, how do you think it is impacting children?

Yes... I think that one item at a time, these violent toys and forms of entertainment should be avoided.  I don't think it's necessary for kids to toy play with guns.  Also, I think that video games in general are a bad influence for children.  There are so many educational things that can be done at home, and outside of the house they can play.  With movies, this is why we have ratings.  I think that kids should be in their teenage years before they begin to see violent movies, when they understand what right and wrong is.

Yes i think they should be banned if you can't tell the difference.

NopoliBeen , you would change the nature of mankind? You'd make them all into sheep? This is the very thing you're advocating. The instinct to play with weapons (the roman kids played with swords) is a SURVIVAL trait.

There will ALWAYS be bad guys on the planet, They will ALWAYS prey on those who can't, or won't, defend themselves. You may be pascifistic enough to be willing to sacrifice yourself or your family, but I'm not. Anyone who threatens my family will be eliminated from the gene pool.

Whether or not you choose to carry or own firearms is your affair and not my concern, but you have ZERO right (a right confirmed, not granted, by the Constitution) to curtail MY rights.

megan2008...The most important thing you should realize, about weapons, is that the weapon isn't what kills people, we humans do the shooting and killing all by ourselves, and more people die every day from gunshot wounds than any other violent crime on a human.  There are children emulating video games and tv shows to the extet that the games have become an alternate life style, and sometimes the gammer can become so involved they loose some sensativity of the general welfare of others. The toy makers have seized a great opportunity to proffit on this genre and are doing so well, that ,yes ,childred are being killed by accident when showing ,or when someone else sees that they have a weapon, or one that looks so close to the real thing, they can't tell the difference. I have always had a weapon in my home. I have always kept it loaded with one in the chamber.BUT...My son always knew about the weapon from the time he could mentally, emotionally, and visually understand what it was; meaning I took him to the fireing range at the age of 11, and taught him how to fire, aim, load, and to hunt, so he completely understood that when you fire a weapon, and piont it at anything, three things will happen,1--something will die,2--something will be hurt, or, 3--something will be damaged. I grew up with weapons in the house of hunters, and to this day hold dear a healthy respect for weapons, because I was taught how to use them .Clearly not everyone has been given this opportunity. Control of weapons, (automatics like ozzies, and larger should be controled to some degree,) is not up to the government alone to control...we are...you, me, the manufacture, and the general public, by making sure that when someone wants a weapon, check them out, thuroughly,---right down to toilet training days...I've had that done, I have nothing to hide...and if you have nothing to hide what does it matter...nothing at all...does this infringe on my privacy...I don't think so, I want the state and local government watching me, because if there is a bad guy watching me, I want them to be caught!...I don't want any more children to die from an accidental gunshot wound inflicted by a drive-by-shooter, or someone in law enforcement who sees a child, (any age) with what "LOOKS" like a weapon to loose their life. We're adults...lets act like adults, and take control ourselves. When the terrorisn that is out there, gets closer to home, and it is, I want someone to know where they bought that weapon...especially if they bought it at a store in my home town.

NO they should NOT be banned! Toy guns are just that TOYS! Guns don't kill People do. The same for Violence on TV, and video games. If you are a stable minded person none of this will effect you. I do not beleive that someone does a bad thing and can blame it on TV, a game or a toy. That is what is wrong with todays youth it is to easy to blame what they have done on someone or something else. It is time for people to start taking RESPONSIBILITY for their actions!

Good response Melissa.

I would add that the kids require guidance and explanation from their parents as well. They must be made to see the difference between real life violence and fantasy violence. Further, they need to understand when (real life) violence is not permissible and when it's NECESSARY as it sometimes is.

I think the ban should not be allowed. I mean they are toys and kids love them,I think the toy makers should make them safer and more distinguishable. But people not the toys are at fault and no matter what we do people will always find ways to make things worse then they are or abuse them.

As for video games and TV thats just nonsense and a copout. I grew up watching scary movies and I now study about serial crimes,But I am not an axe murderer or serial killer because I read or watch movies like that. Most of the bans are coming from the churches in this nation and not from regular people.

Just a couple thoughts from me

I believe "toy" guns should have been banned years ago.  Why should children be taught that violent equipment such as guns, should be available to the average citizen? Should not the various programs which incite use of guns generally (most of TV policier stories) dealwith firearms in the hands of criminals.  The constant exposure  and the lack of resultant harm should be more in evidence.  Guns are NOT playthings.

Whaling is an obscenity. Leftist nations are the last to commit this practice. Russian and Muslim whaling fleets prowl the antarctic waters. The blood they spill is the noblest that ever swam. Thanks be to leftists for they perpetuate whaling. They alone would drive the whale to extinction.

Why was the clydesdale bowing heads at ground zero commercial banned?

The commercial called "Respect" was not banned, but withdrawn from use after being broadcast on SuperBowl 36. Anheuser-Busch produced the ad as a tribute, and felt that running it repeatedly would make it look like they were trying to capitalize on the tragedy.
