There is some debate as to whether this is an old wives tale or if it is really true.  Those who maintain the idea say it is because by adulthood, the tonsils are larger and more deeply rooted.  Plus, they claim that children are more resilient than adults at recovering from surgery.  I can't say one way or the other, but it sounds like a rough week or two for either a child or adult.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I am not sure whether this is true. There do not seem to be many adults with tonsils. The tonsils, if not surgically removed usually under a degree of involution.
