How much should I tip someone who comes to my house to install a windshield in my car? The cost is about $200 and is NOT covered by insurance.
Normally people don't tip for this type of service, but it is nice that you want to. There will probably be two people working for about an hour or more. I think you should base your tip on the working conditions, the quality of the job and how well they clean up after the work is done.
The assistant will of course be the lowest paid person and the most in need of a tip. If you gave the leader $5 and the assistant $10 you would be more than generous, since you probably will never have business dealings with these people again, as windshield replacement is fairly rare for an individual car owner.
The normal 15% rule for tipping doesn't apply here, but if you want to divide $30 between the workers that is of course your call.
