Time for Time out

What age is appropriate to start discipline i.e  "time out" for bad behavior?

As soon as your child can walk, and understand that restriction is discipline then a time out is appropriate.  Of course you will have to help them understand the concept with consistancy and patience. He/she will get up, but you just keep sitting them down for the time out.  Soon they will associate the time out with the negative behavior they have displayed.

I have to agree with Bivee. When your child is doing something that is unacceptable, time-out helps stop it and change the situation. Time-out sends him away from the trouble spot, and into an isolated area such as a room, chair, quiet corner, hallway, crib, or playpen. It's best used with children aged 2 to 12 years.

It really depends on your child. In general once he's old enough to understand when he has done something wrong. I would say you should try and start as early as possible. Try and save this course of action for cases where it's really needed so that your child understands that he has done something serious.
