I don't know that ot matters how he did it.  Why he did it is the primary issue.  Holmes actions are those of a radical paramilitary leftist, whose funding could well come from a hostile foreign government with a track record of terrorism.  We should not rule out gangs or others who despise "the man."

Time and again we see people bringing up the Wall Street occupiers, noting that they are true fascists and have always resorted to violence. 

In my view this is merely the symptom: the disease is far more deadly and needs to be dealt with far more aggressively.

Terrrorists have a reason they do what they do.

Do they?  The best I can see is that they hope to control another group of people by the application of fear.  That may well work with cowards but Americans respond quite forcibly and make sure that we maintain firm control over the former opponent into the foreseeable future. 

The Aurora shooter, as far as is known, had no reason at all for doing what he did.

That is for the prison psychiatrist to determine before they execute him.  He will not cooperate but he does not have to: condemned prisoners lose the right to life, liberty, silence, legal representation, and all else, as of conviction.  First we determine the cause, and then we execute the prisoner.

He is in contrast to Anders Breivik, who gave a reason for his attack in Norway to be politically motivated. The reason for Eric Rudolph's attack was given to be religiously motivated. There has been no admission to any motivation, political, religious, or otherwise, in the Aurora shooter's case.

We will determine these facts during the course of trial.

How he came into possession of tens of thousands of dollars worth of military gear, being an unemployed university student, has yet to be determined.

That gives rise to a terrorist organization having reduced him to violence, tarined and armed him.  Radical Muslim terrorists are training on our soil presenty and in no uncertain terms.  If this is just another Muslim attack, then God help the Muslims because no one else can or will.  We still outnumber the 335:1.

At present, I refuse to jump to conclusions by labeling him as a terrorist. He could have been someone with a few weapons who went off the deep end, or there could be alot more to it that hasn't come to light yet.

Do not "err on the side of caution."  This is the time for methodical investigation and full discoivery, and then subsequent action if necessary by the armed forces to detain, question, and prosecute, foireign nationals on our shores illegally, or to prosecute those involved in sleeper cells as the traitors that they are.
