Fracturing goes back to the 1860s. Hydraulic fracturing was patented in 1947. In 1997 the present method of hydraulic fracturing was developed by Mitchell Energy.
Someone told me that two men were primarily responsible for the 1997 process. The last name was Cranor. I have been trying to check this out.
In 1998, Mitchell Energy engineers, led by Nick Steinsberger, applied an innovative drilling technique called ‘slick water fracturing’ (or ‘light sand fracking’) that brought fracture job costs down.
