posted: 25 MINUTES AGO WASHINGTON -The House voted overwhelmingly Thursday to eliminate monthly premium increases for millions of Medicare patients next year. It voted 406 to 18 to send the bill to the Senate, which is expected to act soon. Lawmakers said older Americans shouldn't have to pay higher Medicare Part B premiums because they are not expected to get a cost of living increase from Social Security. House passes bill stopping Medicare premium hikes Democrats said they had to act on a bill quickly so the administration could set premium rates for next year and inform seniors this fall. "Why couldn't we have held a hearing on this and marked the bill up in the month that we've been back?" said Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas. They seem determined to "get the seniors" If there so so much fraud in Medicare and Medicad, why not go after it now and see if will pay some of the health care costs. It seems to me that if they allowed insurance Co's to cross State lines, that would bring the cost WAY down. Also do something about tort reform. Those two things would go a long way towards helping. But, when you are in bed with lawyers and ins. co's., you are not going to do anything but hurt the public.
Greta, In my opinion, your last statement should have been "When you are in bed with lawyers and insurance companies, you are not going to do anything but get screwed."
We cannot continue to endlessly borrow and spend. Thus, I see nothing wrong with seniors being asked to pay a bit more for the fabulous program (Medicare) that they are under. There are fewer workers paying into Medicare all the time notwithstanding the fast-growing increase of beneficiaries. Further, there are many ways Medicare can be reformed without damage to the seniors. For instance, there are too many MRI's used when an X-ray would serve at only a fraction of the cost. It is interesting that the same MRI in Japan costs $98, while it costs about $1,700 in the USA.
Seniors do not get a COL increase for 2 years??!!! Has anyone in Congress ever gone to a store and bought anything??? That there is no inflation is a lie.
What do you think on yedda - people. Sharing. Knowledge. Tennis guy You must not be a senior citizen. Yes it does hurt us seniors that worked as waitress's back in the 60's and didn't have that much taken out wages, when i only got paid $ 1.00 ( YES ONE DOLLAR A DAY ! ) PLUS TIPS ( WHICH WAS NOT MUCH BECAUSE IT WAS A NAVY TOWN AT THAT TIME, AND THE YOUNG MEN DIDN'T GET THAT MUCH PAY. If they are going to hike the medicare payments for health coverage that is took out our social security check automatic and not increase our social security check for at least another year thanks to o.B. ( WHICH MY CHECK ISN'T THAT BIG ANYWAY ) HOW AREWE SUPPOSE TO BUY GROCERIES WITH THE PRICE GOING UP EVERY WEEK. Also we worked hard all our life and paid into social security, so if we need a good doctor, who will pay for it ? Washington ? We don't want to go on food stamps cause everyone complains about it, and they don't give you much stamps, so you still got to take money from your s.S. Check to eat. It all adds up to what came first, the chicken or the egg. Wait till you become a senior and can't work. You will be singing a different tune. And your statement about mri/x-ray's. Do you have experiencing about this . Proven facts ? Because 20 years ago i fell down a flight of stairs, they did a x-ray and didn't find the problem. I couldn't walk without pain for a long time, and finally 1 year they did a mri and found the damage in my knee, had surgery, got better. So that's what i think about x-rays. Some one has to stand up for us seniors. We deserve better just like service men and women of the united states of america....God bless us all. God bless Nanadee
