My therapist asked me to take a hot shower to ...

my therapist asked me to take a hot shower to relax and then lay down so he could hypnotise me to recover some memories.. Is this normal? or a red flag?

It doesn't sound good to me. It may, perhaps, be a practice of this therapist, but I used to be a therapist and I certainly would never have considered asking a client to take a shower. But, though I know how, I never used hypnosis as a part of therapy, so I can't speak with any authority about what hypnotherapists might practice. But it still just sounds wrong to me.

If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, then that makes me a burning truck filled with TNT hurtling through a rocket fuel depot.

If you accept hypnosis go for it but take someone to stay next to you (and be on guard when you loose control) !.  Personally I don't recommend hypnosis as part of the treatment (can do more harm than good).
