Ben, Depending on the reason you received the money, send a thank you card and simply say Thank you for your gift (or help) , I appreciate it very much.

First, I must say your concern about how to ackowledge this gift  and being proper about it, is humble enough. I would send  a thank you card written from the heart, to your club chairperson acknowledging everyone who contibuted, Showing your appreciation and gratitude.

To be in two places at once is virtually possible.
