I have two Maltese pups. I've had them for 2 years now...and had another one for nearly 10 years before I got them. Maltese are great with kids and submissive towards other dogs which is probably what saves their lives when confronted by large dogs or other animals. They are very lovable, easy to train, and love to play...especially if you have two...so much fun to watch. They don't shed...but do have to be groomed every few months...due to the length their hair grows. One thing you do need to know...is never to deter from their regular diet because they get sick when given human food or something they aren't use to eating. I give mine Beneful Original and Small Milkbones (broken in two and one half given to each of them)...you don't want them to get fat and unhealthy.
I will never own any other kind of dog. The last thing I will say about ANY dog...is you never aggravate them as pups...or they will learn to be aggressive and bite.
If you are thinking of getting one...or already have a Maltese...you have made a wise choice.
Sincerely,
Faye
