Teen book about smart sex, drugs etc

Is anyone else relieved that there is finally someone writing a book about a teen girl who sets a great example for others at school? I was told about a new book coming out called "Alex Opalstone and the Window of Heaven's View: Life 101" by T.M. Meek. It's about a teen girl named Alex and she is against sexting and bullying and drugs. The Alex Opalstone website offers the first seven chapters for free. I read it and it's hilariously good reading (after you get past the chapter about her jerk brother). Anyone else glad there is hope for more kids reading of good examples?

Yes, there is hope for our teens as long as long we stay grounded as adults and don't let electronic media and peer pressure rule our households.

It's nice, I guess - but I would be much happier if I knew that my daughter wasn't being bombarded by the same old useless images and examples: You know, the "good" girl getting rewarded for "waiting", and the "bad" girl being punished for not waiting. It isn't realistic, it isn't useful, and in the long run, it isn't always even desirable. There have been some really fine authors who have approached this subject from a much more sensitive and sympathetic perspective (Ursula Leguin, Judy Blume, and M.E. Kerr, to name but a few) and who have used the subject matter to truly instruct in an honest and real way. I don't know that we really need to go back to the 50's - our children need to build the equipment to tackle adult issues in an emotionally intelligent way and not be as over-simple as we all were instructed to be.
