Should a wireless router slow down your internet ...

Should a wireless router slow down your internet? I usually have extremely fast internet through the land line but we bought a router and it has slowed the normally quick internet down to a crawl. I can't even get web pages to open half the time it is so slow. Even the direct line from the router to the computer is much slower. What would cause this?

the wireless router should be one suited for your current internet connection speed or faster.  it would matter if you got a wireless g or wireless n, or even a wireless b router.  the next one to consider is the receiver on your computer, if it can also be of the same type (b, g, or n) as your router.

good luck!

Absoulutly yes, Router can slow your internet connection cause router split the internet connection, but many computer can access internet using router.

Wireless-G is capable of 20 Mbps, which is faster than DSL and about equal to cable modem speed.  Wireless-N is even faster.  So it should not slow down your Internet access.  Wireless-B is slower, around 5 Mbps, about like DSL speed, but that's fast enough to load web pages.

You can try turning off the modem for a minute to reset it.  Or possibly you need to replace the Ethernet cable from modem to router.

Yes in some cases your wireless slows down your Internet due to interference equipment  and other issues. Repositioning your router can be helpful. Also optimize your browser, Internet, clean registry and manage services through Reginout Utility Software. Hope it would help you. Thanks
