in february, 2009, i moved from missouri to california.  technically missouri remains my  chief residence, although i have not earned income nor visited there since i arrived in california.  i am employed, and nearly all  all my  2009 income has been  earned in california.

my husband travels between missouri and california.  we file a joint return each year.  he has retirement income that is mailed, therefore earned income in missouri, and no other state.

our federal return will not be affected, however, i need advise, how best to file our 2009 taxes...

thank you.

what will be the best way to handle our taxes for 2010?  file non resident income in california in addition to our income earned in missouri?  for me to change my resident status to be a california legal resident  and file a missouri return as non-resident for   my income and resident for my husband's resident income?

is it possible to file a return as a resident of california (my income and for my husband to file as a resident of missouri?
