I read somewhere that when flushing the radiator, the thermostat should be removed. Do you guys think this is necessary or can you just flush it with the thermostat in?

I have the deep wheel tool ,we are having a problem getting it lose to get it off. Spindel axle nut won`t get off we think it might be on there with some lock tight. Thanks for all the help.
