Is the effect of lasik eye surgery long-term or even permanent? How long does the correction usually last? Could there be instances where regression occurs?

I'd love to have this type of surgery but it will be a long time in the future. I need to save up for it and that's not easy. Are there clinics which would let you pay in installments?
