How do I sweeten stinky soil?

My dog pees in the same spot in the dirt all the time.  This dirt really stinks bad (almost like sewer).  I keep dumping bleach and water on the spot but within a day, it starts stinking pretty bad again.  What can do to sweeten the soil and combat this odor?  Please note that I have a very very tiny patio with a little bit of dirt surrounding it so the dog doesn't have much choice as to where to pee.  HELP!!!

What you're trying to neutralize is ammonia, which is alkaline.  Bleach is also alkaline, which is why it isn't working so well.  Try vinegar.

I had a similar problem a while back with a closet in my sister's house that smelled bad because of a cat's litter box having been left in there for a long time.  I solved it by boiling a pot of vinegar, putting the hot pot on a pad in the closet, and closing the door to let it saturate the area.  Once the vinegar smell was gone, so was the ammonia!  Please let me know if this works for you as well.

Think of the solution, not the problem. --Zedd
