I have a 2001 XL7 with the 2.7ltr V-6. If it's the same engine, the EGR valve is mounted on the underside of the intake manifold in the center of the engine back  toward the firewall. You can't see it from above. The easiest way to change one is to take the intake manifold with throttle body off the engine. This is the part that goes across the back of the engine. It sounds intense but all you really need are 10 and 12mm wrenches, 1/4 and 3/8" drive sockets in 10 and 12mm. 3 bolts on either side, a few hoses, a few electrical connections, throttle cable and a thin tube that runs from the intake manifold to the exhaust manifold(disconnect at the exhaust and take out attached to the intake manifold) and with a little maneuvering it will come up and out. The EGR valve is mounted on the bottom. I did it, you can too.
