Yes, have no fear. If you cant get into the desktop then remove the hard drive and plug it into a USB multi hard drive reader. Then plug the USB end into another computer. The computer will create a new external drive (which is your laptop hardrive) you can then proceed to backup all your files that you want to keep, you can also run a virus scan on the drive as this may be the reason why it doesnt boot to the desktop. Worst case scenario though is that you backup all your files then format the laptop hard drive. Then just reinstall windows and copy your files back.
