Best Study Bible

I would like to purchase a Study Bible for my husband's birthday. It would need to be a KJV version and it should not cost over $50. What is the best study Bible that is available for that price?

The best study bible I know is the NEW WORLD TRANSLATION. a translation of the Holy Scriptures made directly from Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek into modern-day English. You may obtain it free of charge fron the Jehovah Witnesses of yor town.

I happened to read the answer that says the New World Translation - put out by the Jehovah Witnesses -- DO NOT use that version!  The JW organization is widely known to be a cult and is not Christian (no matter what they personally tell you).

I recommend the Thompson Chain Study Bible (KJV) -- I don't know what the cost is, but it has been known to be a good study Bible for a long time.

It's all about HIM!

I have seen mini versions at the dollar tree

My personal preference is through any of the Calvary Chapels...as they have literally different groups which meet at different times.  Men with men and women with women and even home fellowships where both husband and wife can be involved.  The reason i would suggest a group Bible study is the accountability in Bible Scripture.  When I spend too time studying alone, I tend to find new twists and pull off course from what the Bible is saying.  This is a big problem when people never hook into other people that study the Bible: you slowly move into your own theological thinking and that tends to bring you to a place  of believing your interpretation rather than what the SPIRIT says to the churches.  Remember, we are told many times in the Bible to hear what the SPIRIT SAYS TO THE CHURCHES... that means, you have to be in church to hear what GOD is speaking.  In Acts we are told the apostles and believers stayed into four things: the breaking of bread, prayer, study of the Word, and  GATHERING FOR FELLOWSHIP. Why? GOD wants HIS people to be around each other to keep the same mind and heart, to keep each other on track, and to know what each other's burdens are so that others can keep them lifted up in prayer.

Bible studies are good in your private devotional time when you wake in the morning and late before sleeping... but those kinds of Bible studies can be derived from your local church and fellowship groups and from you church book store.... and some, like myself, I read the Bible, and when I come to a place that I can't get it completely and feel I need to; I go to a commentary and thus, a Bible study is developed.

Hope this helps... if you are interested in a formatted Bible study, I could suggest going to the sites the the Billy Graham Association, or, Charles Stanley, or, James Kennedy, Vernon James Magee, or, Chuck Smith, Greg Laurie, Calvary Chapel Philadelphia, and/or, Moody Bible Institute.

Hope this helps...Blessings in your quest to know HIM and seeking a blessing for your husband.  <{{{>< BRyan

A Scofield Bible of any sort would be good.  He is excellent at condensing notes.  The versions which I find to be the most accurate are: the New King James Version, the New American Standard Bible and the English Standard Bible (my only problem with the latter is, they do not capitalize pronouns which refer to God...the same might be true of the NKJV?).  These Bibles are very readable and very accurate.  The New World Translation is a cult Bible.  It is dishonestly translated in several areas (e.g., John 1:1-3).  What I mean is, they apply their "Greek rules" to that passage which they do not apply anywhere in the NT.

For a reading Bible, I am very enthusiastic about the New Living Translation

I do not know if you can get Scofield notes with any of the versions I suggested.

Also, if you use your computer a lot for study, then try e-sword.  It is a free program, there are dozens of free translations and dictionaries and commentaries available for it.

Sorry, I just read your question. Try CBD.com (Christianbook distributors), large selection and great prices.  I'm a regular customer but not an employee.  You can e'mail a question to them from their home page.  Their customer service group is outstanding.  JW is definitely a cult.  Sadly, they are sending Souls to a horrendous Eternity.
