P.McMakin -- Why do you want to stop your period?  I know that it's not fun, but taking drugs for the purpose of stopping your period might not be worth it.  Drugs have side effects and you are messing around with mother nature, which might not be a good thing.

I'm in my late fifties, my periods have stopped naturally but someone asked how to do it and I told them. Using birth control pills to cut your periods down to a handful of times per year instead of every month isn't likely to hurt you, especially if you do it with your doctor's knowledge and approval and allow your period to occur in the necessary time span (every 3-4 months, if I remember right).
