Gordon is not the first to do so.  King Brian the Wild built Swamp Castle, on a swamp.  It sank into the swamp. 

Then he got people angry at him again for letting the castle sink into the swamp, and they threw more rocks at him.  He used those rocks to build another castle . . . that sank into the swamp. 

This time the people threw more rocks at him again, which gave him more building material for the third Swamp Castle.  It burned down, fell over, and then sank into the swamp.  But the fourth one stayed up!

And for some reason, young Herbert decided not to marry.  He was supposed to marry so that his father could move out of Swamp Castle -- pointedly without Herbert.  History is full of strange and inexplicable occurrences.
