How to find out if purchased vehicle is stolen. I ...

How to find out if purchased vehicle is stolen.  I purchased 1993 Chevrolet S-10 Tahoe pick-up 4.3 litre engine, VIN #1GCCS14Z6P0106565 from a private party.  This person did have a title, but not in his name.  He had 2 affdavits from 2 previous owners but nothing with his name on it.  He claimed that his uncle had a cardealership and that his uncle gave him the truck.  We have heard several stories as to why we still don't have a correct title and that it is going to take several more weeks.  I feel that I am getting the run around and may have purchased a stolen vehicle.  How can I find out for sure?

Go on line to Carfax.com  for a fee they will tell you who has owned the car since it was built, any repairs that might have been made due to an accident, if it is stolen, or the car has been salvaged from an Ins. Co.

Maybe this is too simple, but how about going to the police?
