These states have not been 'united' for about 40 years. The left bitterly protested the Viet Nam War and the chasm between conservatives and liberals has grown so wide that I can't see anything bringing them together again.   We had a brief, fleeting united moment just after 9/11 but it didn't last.  It may now be time for a United Liberal American and a United Conserevative America, each with it's own government and constitution.  Since we are now interpreting the Constitution to suit our own beliefs, all that is really left to do is divide the land mass.
