Bought a craftsman lt 4000 with a bad starter ...

Bought a craftsman lt 4000 with a bad starter (Tecumseh) starter seemed to work a little and drove the tractor a bit.  Once I shut it down the starter seemed to drag and wouldn t start.  Took it apart and found the fields had come loose from case.  Tried to re attach with JB weld then nothing.  Bought a new one from DB electrical and it worked fine for about 10 starts.  Called JB and they sent a replacement, this one worked except the brackets were out of line and it barely touched the fly wheel made a nasty grinding but no turning.  Took it off and realigned the bracket and made it engage , but now it dosen t turn just clicked like a dead battery put the charger and still nothing.  Is this a common defect on these starters.  Is there a better replacement like maybe the square four bolt, mine is a round four bolt.  Any suggestions or help thanks Donny
