What are squirt collars good for when training dogs?

What are squirt collars good for when training dogs? I feel like they wouldn't work on teaching my dog to stop chasing small animals, for example, because he probably wouldn't notice it at all.

The idea is sort of like talking to your child or spanking them with a quick smack on the butt and the problem is processed as to action vs results.

I'm with the quick smack on the butt by using a collar that gives a quick jolt of electricity.  Some collars respond by the sound of barking and others are controlled by the dog owner to respond when a quick zap is desired.

This snap of energy is very unnatural to a dog and they will remember it.  think of all the electric fensing used for livestock.  It's used because the animals remember it.  Take a look at this site for many to choose and more articles.  Good Luck.... Super

The idea behind squirt collars especially using citronella in the squirt collar is that the dog doesn't like  the smell of citronella and helps to keep the dog from performing unwanted behavior.

I myself use a Martingale training collar but of course it doesn't squirt or anything, it just a cinch collar and when the dog does something that you are trying to break it from you just tug on the collar and the collar cinches around the neck until the pressure is released. This breaks the dogs immediate focus on what it's doing wrong and brings it around to focus on you. It's all about being repetitive until the dog stops the action you dislike.
