Squash are rotting with bloom still on

summer squash rot, my summer squash are rotting with the bloom still on them. Can you tell me what this is and how do I stop it?? It starts as a white, soft and mushy then start turning black close to the bloom, Please help.

my guess would be that it rained too much, they got too much water, or maybe they were standing in water..
