Why is it so difficult for soccer to find a market ...

I really dont understand this either. The rest of the world is into soccer, yet, america struggles to catch on. I've been told its because before soccer came to america we had football and baseball. I'm totally obsessed with soccer so I was watching my nephew play soccer on XBOX, and they said that most likely if us Americans won a world cup, it would boost the love of soccer, the challenge is, we have to win a world cup

Probably because we didn't invent it.  Not only that, but we decided to call a sport that rarely uses the feet, football, and change the name of the real football to soccer.  We are an arrogant country.  If we are not the best at something, we call it inferior.  Football (soccer) is a sport mainly played in other countries ~ Europe, South America.  It isn't a North American sport, although I hear it is getting more popular in Canada.  So therefore, it isn't really even considered a sport.  Ridiculous, but unfortunately true.  I loved playing soccer in high school, and some of my favorite memories were watching my stepson play soccer when he was about 6 or 7 years old.  This was in the age of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and that is what they looked like, a pack of little turtles, ignoring their positions, and chasing that ball!

Haha, that's hilarious...and true!! I coach soccer and the wee ones are just like that. Funny, here where I live, soccer is huge, rivalling hockey. But it makes sense because Newfoundland was the last province to join Canada and still has very strong ties to the UK.

Jeez, Skitch, I didn't even look at who replied until after responded, hahaha! Still, I love the US and think you have a wonderful country. And lets not forget that your country did introduce the world to basketball and baseball, which easily beats that other huge international sport - cricket.

Come on!!  What about Rugby or polo??  I never miss a polo match if I can help it!!  I watched water polo during the Olympics, and was not really all that excited by the game, but was amazed that every country had a team playing that game.  Water polo.  Who knew?  Or that the Philipines had such powerful weightlifting women.  Or was that Thailand??  can't remember.  I know they were Asian and tiny, and really scary.  I am a baseball fan, and I can say that the last few years have been glorious for me.  I am obliged to root for the Boston red Sox, because my dad was from Massachusetts.  I have always lovd the Phillies.  So, this year was SWEET!!!  I don't watch basketball, and I believe that football (the American version) should only be watched from the bleachers.

Big fan of rugby, played it in high school (we don't have organized football here) but I can't really say it has the same global following as cricket or soccer. As for polo....And as for the Sox, I was always a Sox fan...and a Celtics fan (but that's because they have the same name as my favorite soccer team Glasgow Celtic FC). Sadly, I was at a tournament for all but 2 days of the Olympics and missed 'em. And I'm a Raiders fan. No pity.

Sorry.  I dumped the Raiders as my team when they dumped Oakland as their hometown.  I don't hink you should be able to just change your hometown and your team name to suit your purposes!!  Guess I'd choose the Steelers or the Packers (I'm originally from Wisconsin).  I was being facetious about the whole polo thing and especially the whole rugby thing.  I was into wrestling in high school. I took stats.  I missed most of the women's gymnastics this Olympics. I was really bummed!

At the time, I kinda liked that Al Davis was so independent that he would do that, however, in retrospect, it was hugely disloyal to the Oakland community. Still love 'em though. My team, bad or good. I like Wisconsin and admire the Packers, more for their fans. I used to be a flight attendant and went into Milwaukee overnight a few times. Cold there, like Thunder Bay. Folks were very nice there though.
