I think that's probably a good idea.

If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, then that makes me a burning truck filled with TNT hurtling through a rocket fuel depot.

It lets off the pressure of having to do everything at once. Lets you relax a bit. Us creative types, we don't work well under stress. Give yourself time to really learn what you're aiming at. It's a hard business to get into an harder to succeed at. Learn everything you can as well as you can. I don't know what uni you're wanting to attend. I went to UCLA, best film school in the country I think. But it was HIGH pressure. You need to be ready for that.
