The question: Is spiritual awakening the same as enlightenment?

How to tell that someone who said that he has got spiritual enlightenment is really enlightened?

FR: NOTE: to better clarify my initial post... A spiritual awakening is the Beginning of the Process of Enlightenment... which begins with an act of Grace .... where the first of three "coverings" of the soul is shattered.

 In Sanskrit this outer covering is called the Anavalmala. This BEGINS the Divine process which leads TO full Enlightenment.

It is only after this initial awakening that our own self effort and Divine Grace can both work together.. as two wings of a bird. STill, for that initial Awakening.. no amount of self effort will do. Grace IS essential.
Enlightenment is the culmination of one's spiritual journey... SELF Realization.

As for how to tell if someone is actually Enlightened? Well, first... an Enlightened BEing will never bother to say they are... because they are. : ) Sometimes, if we are attuned enough ourselves we can sense the absolute calm and peace that such rare BEings exude. Such Beings can as easily walk through a mine field, or the "Valley of Death" as someone walking joyfully on a sunny beach. Even in their sadness there is an underlying Joy.
Many times such BEings hide their attainments from the public so that they can more easily move amongst us. They are as delighted playing the role of a grocery bag boy as a skilled surgeon... often giving us not the response we want.. but the response we need. They are totally intuitive and exist constantly in the fear free state.
