Add 13 to both sides and you get 22-c = 0.  Add c to both sides and get 22 = c.

You may add 13 to the first side, but it is impossible to add it to the second side.  The fact that c is not a number, but a letter automatically eliminates

it from being in a math problem.

9 - c = -13

Bring the digit on the other side :

- c = -13 -9

-c = - 22

Therefore, similar signs will get cancelled; c = 22 (answer)
