There was never any 'official' social security cards issued.. In the sixties, there was a company that would metalize your number into their card for a price, this was before the g'ment put a ban on the business venture. I had one myself but quit using it because no one would recognize it unless I also presented my official paper card. Subsiquentally, up until the mid sixties, you could laminate your s.s. card (as the disclaimer wasn't posted on the card anywhere).
