can Social Security benefits reinstate - I had SS benefits as a widow. I remarried and the surviving spouce benefits ended. I have been married for 17 years. My husband petitioned for divorce. Can my benefits be reinstated. mlmanias@aol.com

Generally, you cannot get widow’s or widower’s benefits if you remarry before age 60. Divorce in your subsequent marriage however, may be a factor for the reinstatement of your benefits. Just to be sure, you have to talk to a personal in the social security office closest in your area and find out.
